Hello my DA friends.
I have been a bit distracted this week, I have been living a nightmare called the King Fire. This fire is burning in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, just west of Lake Tahoe for 5 days now.
Last night, my family and I got the call that we were under voluntary evacuation orders. We loaded up our 2 vehicles and went to bed, waiting for the call to get out. At this time, the fire was less than 2 miles from our home. As of 8:00 this morning, that order had been lifted, due to the hard work of our fantastic Fire Fighters.
This fire is HUGE! Today's numbers are not out yet, but as of this morning, we were just under 20,000 acres, over 18 square miles.
We have been listening all day long to Fire Fighting helicopters and planes, including the HUGE DC-10 fire retardant dropping aircraft
This is the view from our house
I went out on Monday night
and
to photograph some fire images at night. I am so very grateful to these two, not only did they distract me from the stress of the fire, but their family has also offered up their home to my family if we were forced to leave.
Lastly, I shot this image while out with my family checking on the fires progress last night.
Please keep all the Law Enforcement and Fire Fighter crews that have come literally from all over the country to help fight this horrid fire in your thoughts and prayers, they are true heroes!
